The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are arguably the most consistent team in IPL history. As a matter of fact, they are the defending champions as well. They went on to win the 14th edition of the IPL and like always, proved their critics wrong.

It was a complete team effort as the Yellow Army had several match winners in their side. However, having said that, the Super Kings have often being referred to as the ‘Dad’s Army’. One of the major reasons for it being the fact that they have several players who are in the wrong side of the 30s.

However, ahead of the next season in 2022, they would have to form a new team as every franchise can retain a maximum of only four players going into the mega auction. Thus, CSK would only retain their core and form a new side around these core group of players. So which are the players CSK would like to retain?

In the article, we shall be taking a look at 4 players CSK might retain ahead of mega auction:

1) MS Dhoni

MS Dhoni has been the face of the franchise since its inception. He is the heartbeat of CSK. It wouldn’t be an overstatement to say that the Super Kings wouldn’t have been this successful if not for him.

Over the years, he has, time and again, performed under pressure and proved the critics wrong on several occasions. While some might feel that he hasn’t been in the best of form of late and thus shouldn’t be retained, his leadership alone is sufficient for him to merit a side in the XI. Add to that his brilliant wicketkeeping skills.

Besides, the Indian legend hasn’t shown any signs of retiring from the Indian T20 league. He can form a new set of players around him. Last but not the least, the 40-year-old can also groom a new leader under his reign.
