The biggest ever IPL Auction is really throwing some gigantic surprises of the highest order. Another one to add to that list is the young fast bowler Jaydev Unadkat, who went for a whopping Rs. 11.5 Crore amidst a massive bidding war. Eventually, it was the comeback kings Rajasthan Royals who managed to win his services for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League.
Jaydev Unadkat hails from the Porbandar District of Gujarat. After representing the Indian U19 side, he made his IPL debut for the Rajasthan Royals. Right from the outset, he impressed everyone with the channels he kept bowling and during his time with Kolkata Knight Riders, the legendary Wasim Akram suggested this guy is one to watch out for in the future.
He was eventually called up to play for the Indian International side. He made his debut alongside his idol Zaheer Khan in a Test match against South Africa. He then featured in the ODI series against Zimbabwe and New Zealand, but his injuries and inconsistency worked in tandem to keep him out of the limelight.
A life-changing IPL campaign
Jaydev Unadkat performed well in the 2013 edition of the IPL for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Yet, he remained underground for a long period of time before the Rising Pune Supergiant picked him up for his base price of Rs. 30 Lakh. He finished just behind Bhuvneshwar Kumar as the second highest wicket-taker in the 2017 season, which also included a hat-trick against the Sunrisers.
Life has been quite brilliant for him since then, making a comeback into the Indian T20 side. Now, the Rajasthan Royals splurged a humongous Rs. 11.5 Crore on him. It has been a wonderful day for all the young Indian talents, who managed to receive some big contracts. Similar is the case with Unadkat, who now became the highest priced Indian bowler in the history of IPL.
He managed to go past Irfan Pathan, who went for a whopping Rs. 8.6 Crore back in 2011 for the Delhi Daredevils. Unadkat remains second in the list of highest priced bowlers in IPL, just behind Tymall Mills, who went for Rs. 12 Crore in the previous edition.
