It was worth all the hype. It was worth all the buildup. Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians gave the cricketing world a high-scoring roller coaster ride that would have had millions of cricket fans watching the match with their hearts pounding. And in the end, it was the Rohit Sharma-led side that came out on top in an absolute humdinger of a clash and beat CSK with 4 wickets to spare.

Kieron Pollard’s savagery with the willow left the Chennai side dumbstruck. Treating the bowlers with scant respect, the West Indian pummeled 87* off only 34 deliveries to absolutely shatter the CSK side. Krunal Pandya provided excellent support to Pollard and scored a 23-ball 32.

Apart from Pollard, the opening duo of Quinton De Kock and Rohit Sharma provided a brisk start for the Mumbai side. De Kock and Rohit Sharma put on a partnership of 71 runs off just 7.4 overs. While de Kock scored 38 off 28 deliveries, the ‘Hitman’ helped himself to a 24-ball 35.

Ambati Rayudu’s rampaging knock powers CSK to 218/4

You can use several words such as destructive, disdainful, and fantabulous. But still, it would not completely describe the mauling that Ambati Rayudu dished out with the willow. In a blitzkrieg that lasted 27 deliveries, Rayudu blazed away to 72* to enable the MS Dhoni-led Chennai side to post a gargantuan total of 218/4 on the board.

Apart from Rayudu, the likes of Faf du Plessis and Moeen Ali also decimated the Mumbai Indians’ (MI) bowling attack. While du Plessis scored 50 off just 28 deliveries, Moeen Ali scored 58 at a strike rate of 161.11.

The Mumbai bowlers received a pounding from the CSK batsmen. But then, if there was one bright spot in the performance of the Mumbai side with the ball, it was Kieron Pollard. In spite of the carnage that the CSK willow wielders dished out with the willow, Pollard bowled 2 overs, gave away just 12 runs, and also scalped a couple of wickets.

And with this victory, the Mumbai Indians side is placed at the 4th position in the points table, while the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) side still occupies the top place.
