KS Bharat turned out to be the hero for the RCB side in the 56th match of the 2021 edition of the IPL. In a team filled with big-ticket names like Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, and Glenn Maxwell, Bharat stood out with a classy 78* off 52 deliveries to help the Virat Kohli-led side beat the Delhi Capitals with 7 wickets to spare.
Chasing a target of 165, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) side started their innings in disastrous fashion, with both their openers back in the pavilion inside the first 3 overs. While Padikkal sliced Anrich Nortje straight to third man to depart for a duck, Kohli mistimed a flick off Nortje, and hit the ball straight to Kagiso Rabada at mid-on, and was dismissed for 4.
AB de Villiers and Srikar Bharat put on a 49-run stand, but just when things were becoming smooth for RCB, de Villiers holed out to deep mid-wicket and departed for a run-a-ball 26. After the departure of de Villiers, Bharat and Glenn Maxwell finished the job for the RCB side.
While Bharat was the standout performer, Maxwell plundered his way to a 33-ball 51*. With the ball, Anrich Nortje was the pick of the bowlers. The right-arm pacer scalped 2 wickets in his quota of 4 overs and gave away 24 runs. Apart from Nortje, Axar Patel picked up a solitary wicket for the DC side.
The Delhi Capitals (DC) openers, Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan matched each other stroke for stroke and put on a sensational 88-run opening stand. While Shaw scored a sparkling 31-ball 48, Dhawan scored 43 off 35 deliveries.
And, this quickfire opening partnership helped the Delhi Capitals (DC) post a total of 164/5 on the board. Shimron Hetmyer too chipped in with a handy 29 off 22 as well.
Mohammed Siraj was the pick of the bowlers for the Virat Kohli-led RCB side. The right-arm pacer picked up 2 wickets in his quota of 4 overs and leaked just 25 runs. Yuzvendra Chahal, Harshal Patel, and Dan Christian picked up a wicket each. After this victory, the RCB side is stationed at the 3rd spot, while the DC side is occupying the top place.
Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav help MI pummel SRH by 42 runs
It was total carnage at Abu Dhabi as the Mumbai Indians’ (MI) batsmen went totally berserk. Ishan Kishan plundered his way to a 32-ball 84, and Suryakumar Yadav scored a blazing 82 off just 40 deliveries as the Rohit Sharma-led outfit piled up a mammoth total of 235/9 on the board.
Between them, Kishan and Yadav hit 24 fours and 7 sixes. Jason Holder was the pick of the bowlers for the ‘Orange Army’. The tall right-arm pacer picked up 4 wickets in the 4 overs that he bowled. Rashid Khan and Abhishek Sharma also scalped 2 wickets each as well.
In reply, the Sunrisers Hyderabad openers put on a blazing opening partnership. Abhishek Sharma and Jason Roy put on 64 runs off just 5.2 overs, to set the platform for the chase. While Roy scored 34 off 21 deliveries, Sharma helped his way to a 16-ball 33.
But wickets fell in quick succession, and from 64/0, the ‘Orange Army’ scorecard read 100/4. Manish Pandey continued the fight and scored a quick 69* off 41 deliveries. But then, he did not receive adequate support from his teammates, and the SRH outfit went down by 42 runs.
With the ball, Jasprit Bumrah, Nathan Coulter Nile, and James Neesham picked up 2 wickets each, while Piyush Chawla and Trent Boult picked up a solitary scalp. With this victory, the Mumbai Indians have moved to 5th place in the points table, while the SRH side is languishing at the last spot.
