The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) continued their unbeaten run in the second leg of the IPL and beat the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) side with 6 wickets and 2 balls to spare.
Chasing a target of 135, the CSK openers, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Faf du Plessis made the SRH fielders chase leather. The duo put on a scintillating partnership of 75 runs off 10.1 overs to pull the match out of SRH’s grasp. While Gaikwad scored 45 off 38 deliveries, du Plessis helped himself to a classy 36-ball 41.
After the departure of Gaikwad, Moeen Ali chipped in with a handy run-a-ball 17. The left-hander was castled by leg spinner Rashid Khan. After the dismissal of Ali, there was some panic created in the CSK camp, as they lost 2 quick wickets.
Suresh Raina’s poor run in the tournament continued after he was trapped plumb in front of the stumps by Jason Holder for just 2. Faf du Plessis was the next man to depart and top-edged a delivery from Holder that was pouched at mid-wicket. But then, CSK skipper MS Dhoni and Ambati Rayudu finished the job for the ‘Men in Yellow’.
Jason Holder was the pick of the bowlers for the SRH side. The right-arm pacer scalped 3 wickets in his quota of 4 overs, giving away 27 runs, while Rashid Khan scalped a solitary wicket. The rest of the SRH bowlers cut a sorry figure.
Wriddhiman Saha’s lone hand helps SRH to 134/7
The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) side produced a poor performance with the willow. The side struggled to find momentum, lost wickets at regular intervals, and could only post a total of 134/7 in their allotted 20 overs.
In fact, except Wriddhiman Saha, who scored a 46-ball 44, none of the other SRH batsmen could even cross the 20-run mark. Abhishek Sharma and Abdul Samad both scored 18 each to propel the ‘Orange Army’ past the 130-run mark.
For the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Josh Hazlewood was the pick of the bowlers. The right-arm pacer scalped 3 wickets in the 4 overs that he bowled, and leaked only 24 runs as well. Dwayne Bravo was also outstanding with the ball, and picked up 2 wickets in his 4-over spell, giving away just 17 runs.
With this victory, the CSK side is comfortably placed at the top of the points table, while the SRH side is occupying the last spot.
