After losing the first four of the five-match Test series against England, India are currently playing the final encounter at Kennington Oval in London. Barring the third Test at Trent Bridge in Nottingham, the visiting team hasn’t had much to cheer. Moreover, they have had to deal with a number of injuries. Prior to the start of the series, the likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah developed injuries.

Thereafter, off-break bowler, Ravichandran Ashwin got his hip injured in the third Test, which aggravated after playing the fourth Test at The Ageas Bowl in Southampton as admitted by Virat Kohli, the Indian captain. It has now been learned that 30-year-old Indian fast-bowler Ishant Sharma has been feeling pain in his left ankle and is currently being treated as per reports in News 18.

The development

The Delhi-born speedster left the field after bowling only one over in the fourth day’s morning. He was impressive in the first innings as he finished with figures of 31-12-62-3. The lanky pacer picked up the wickets of Moeen Ali, Jonny Bairstow, and Sam Curran. In the second innings, he has only bowled eight overs in which he has conceded 13 runs, but without any rewards.

Sharma has arguably been India’s standout bowler in the series as he is their leading wicket-taker with 18 wickets in nine innings at an average of 24.27. The speedster picked up a five-wicket haul in the second innings of the first Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Thereafter, he hasn’t gone wicketless in any of the innings.

Previously, he played for Sussex in Division two of the County Championship under the tutelage of Jason Gillespie, the former Australian bowler. The stint has definitely helped him refurbish his skills. For the time being, the team management will be hoping for him to take the field at the earliest.
