Former England cricketer Michael Vaughan has found himself in trouble after being alleged of making racist comments. He had earlier denied any such allegations but England spinner Adil Rashid came out in support of Azeem Rafiq and also confirmed that Vaughan did make racist comments during his playing days at Yorkshire.

Rashid saupported Rasfiq’s allegations against Vaughan stating that the former England skipper once counted the number of Asian players in the team before a match. Vaughan categorically denied the allegations again stating that he never said the words which are out in public at the moment.

“I categorically deny saying the words attributed to me by Azeem Rafiq and want to restate this publicly because the “you lot” comment simply never happened,” he wrote in his column for Daily Telegraph.

Vaughan deems it as false allegations

Michael Vaughan, meanwhile, is not happy at all Adil Rashid accusing him now of hearing ‘you lot’ comment against Azeem Rafiq. He claimed that Ajmal Shahzad and six other players who played with him during the time haven’t recalled any such comment being made.

“It is extremely upsetting that this completely false accusation has been made against me by a former teammate, apparently supported by two other players. For some time, Ajmal Shahzad has been on record as saying that he never heard me say what has been suggested. I have been in contact with the six other players from that team and not one of them has any recollection of the remark being made,” Vaughan wrote in his column further.

What is Vaughan accused of saying?

Earlier, Michael Vaughan admitted of his name being surfaced into the racism allegation but had denied all the allegations. Azeem Rafiq has accused him of saying to a group of Asian players as ‘there are too many of you.’ “There are too many of you lot; we need to do something about it,” Vaughan had allegedly said.

It remains to be seen if ECB reacts to this comment even as the board has decided to investigate all the racism allegations strictly. They have also taken strict action against Yorkshire CC for not reacting swiftly in the matter.
