Jaipur set to have third largest cricket stadium in the world

Jaipur is geared up to have the third largest cricket stadium around the world. The seating capacity at the venue will be 75,000 and will be costing around Rs 350 crores and the stadium will soon be coming up in the outskirts of Jaipur. The Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad and the Melbourne Cricket Ground are the top two largest stadiums with capacity of 1.10 lakhs and 1.02 lakhs respectively.

Jaipur, also known as the Pink City, already has the renowned Sawai Mansingh Stadium. The venue has hosted a number of international games and plenty of matches in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as well. It’s the home-ground for the Rajasthan Royals (RR), the champions of the inaugural edition of the IPL back in 2008. The upcoming venue will only be a feather in the city’s cap.

Jaipur ready for a massive milestone

Mahendra Sharma, the secretary of the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA), has said that the stadium will be spread over 100 acres. As per reports in Hindustan Times, the land for the ground has already been finalised in the Chonp Village, which is 25 kms Jaipur on the Jaipur-Delhi highway. It has also been learned that the construction will be getting underway in around four months.

Not only for cricketing activities, the stadium will also have facilities for training academies, indoor games, a club house and parking for as many as 4000 vehicles. There will be a couple of restaurants for the spectators, a press conference room with a seating capacity of 250 and 30 practice nets for the players. The humongous ground is proposed to be built in two phases.

To start with, seating capacity of 45,000 will be built after which the rest of the seats will come into the equation. As far as financing is concerned, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) owes Rs 90 crore to the RCA. The association is also planning to seek a grant of Rs 100 crore from the world’s richest cricket board. Rs 60 crore will be accumulated by selling corporate boxes.

The stadium will have two practice grounds, which can be used for Ranji Trophy matches. Delhi based sports design consultancy firm GRAS and Mehta and associates LLP have already given presentations of the stadiums to RCA chief patron CP Joshi and RCA president Vaibhav Gehlot.
