The current fab four comprises of Steve Smith, Virat Kohli, Kane Wiliamson and Joe Root. Apart from Smith, the other three are also the captain of their respective teams. However, the debate is always about who is better among them, especially between Smith and Kohli. India cricketer Karun Nair has also joined in the debate and has picked the former Australia skipper as the best player when it comes to Tests.

The debate has been going on for a long time with many obliging that Steve Smith is the best player in the longer format. However, when all three formats are considered, there is no going beyond the India captain Virat Kohli at the moment. He averages more than 50 in Tests, ODIs and T20Is each and is the only player to do so currently.

When asked to pick the best Test player, Karun Nair went with Smith and then also termed the rest of the fab four players as modern-day greats. He also included Pakistan’s Babar Azam in the list lauding his batting skills. “Steve Smith (Best Test player)…Babar Azam is also right up there along with these modern-day greats — Virat Kohli, Smith, Kane Williamson and Joe Root,” he said while speaking to Times Now.

Karun Nair picks two strong IPL teams apart from KXIP

Meanwhile, Karun Nair will be soon playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) with the tournament commencing on September 19 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). No wonder according to him, the KXIP are the strongest among eight teams. But when he was asked to pick two other strong teams in the IPL 2020, the Karnataka player went with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and the Delhi Capitals (DC).

As far as Nair is concerned, he last played for India in March 2017 and despite scoring a heroic triple ton against England in Tests, has been on the sidelines. After the brilliant knock, he played only three Tests only to be benched since then and wasn’t even included in the team on England tour where India played five Tests. He will be looking forward to performing well in the IPL and impress the selectors.
