The start to Indian batsman Karun Nair’s Test career was equivalent to a fairytale. He scored a triple century against England in November 2016 to capture the imaginations of the supporters. However, the Rajasthan-born cricketer had to encounter quite a few failures and was subsequently sidelined after Australia’s Test series against Virat Kohli’s men in March 2017.

Nevertheless, he performed well in the domestic circuit and staked his claim back in the national Test team during the historic Test against Afghanistan at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. Unfortunately, he wasn’t considered in the playing eleven. The 26-year-old was thereafter included in the squad for India’s five-match Test series against Joe Root’s men on English soil.

Another chance for Karun Nair

To add to his agony, he wasn’t given opportunity despite him being in the squad from the very beginning. To add insult to injury, he was left out from the squad itself for India’s upcoming two-match Test series against Jason Holder’s Windies, starting, Thursday, October 4. After the omission, the batsman mentioned that the management didn’t communicate with him.

Nevertheless, MSK Prasad, the national chief selector, said that he had made aware and Devang Gandhi had connected with him frequently. The recent times haven’t been joyful for Karun Nair by any means, but he is likely to get an opportunity for making a comeback. India ‘A’ are scheduled to tour New Zealand in mid-November for a three-Test series and Nair is most likely to feature in the series.

In the meantime, India are scheduled to play a four-match Test series against Australia, starting December 6. The first Test will be played at Adelaide Oval. The Test series ends with the final match to be played at the iconic Sydney Cricket Ground. For the time being, Nair would be eying the New Zealand tour in order to catch the selectors’ eyes.
