Former English skipper Kevin Pietersen has been quite harsh on the English side whilst commentating in the ongoing Ashes series. Team England is already facing severe crisis with the scoreline reading 0-3. They have already lost the Ashes and are now trying to save themselves from a 0-5 drubbing. Amidst this situation, one would have expected the former captain to stand by the side of the English team.
However, Kevin Pietersen has taken a stranger stance – one which is totally against the Poms. Earlier, he had trolled captain Joe Root for his defensive captaincy in the Perth Test. More recently, he took a subtle dig at Alastair Cook citing that the opener is only playing to save his spot in the team. He also mentioned that there is no concept like ‘playing for pride’.
He remarked that once the series is lost, then there is no excuse such as saving the pride in the remainder of the series. The tweet has certainly not been received well by the fans. The fans look absolutely miffed with the way KP has taken digs at the English side.
James Taylor responds
Former English batsman, James Taylor, responded to KP’s tweet and asked him the remedy for the same. He rightly questioned KP about his expectations. Should the English side concede a 0-5 drubbing and stop competing, asked Taylor.
So what do you suggest Kevin, Just roll over and lose 5-0? #Ashes https://t.co/ca7ymJfM4Z

Meanwhile, another fan responded to the tweet of Kevin Pietersen with a screenshot of a statement that KP had given half a decade ago. In that statement, he had quoted that the English side retained ‘pride’ after drawing the final Test of the India series.

The other fans also looked absolutely unimpressed with the way KP had mocked the England team. They also cited that there is a big diffence between losing 3-2 and losing 5-0. Here are a couple of such tweets from the fans:
Whitewashes go down in history, players are forever tainted with having been on the receiving end.

Sorry Kev but they’re right. When you’re against your fierce rival you want to show pride a compete, even if the series is settled
