The 10th edition of the Indian Premier League just walked into our living room but no, not without its share of controversies. Mumbai Indian’s all-rounder Kieron Pollard fired back at cricketer-turned-commentator Sanjay Manjrekar for terming the foreign recruit as a ‘brainless’ cricketer.

Manjrekar made a critical analysis of Pollard by saying that the tall lad doesn’t carry a brain to bat higher up the order. Pollard walked into bat at no.6 and fetched a run-a-ball 17 in Mumbai Indian’s successful nerve wrecking chase of 179 against Kolkata Knight Riders last night.

Asked on air by a fellow commentator about what Pollard’s ideal position is as a batsman, Manjrekar said, “When I look at Pollard, I look at him as more a six-seven-overs-left-in-the-innings batsman. Whether he will be able to bat at No. 3 and whether he has the versatility to pick up the singles if the boundaries are not coming, does he have the range as a batsman? I don’t think so. My view is, maybe six or seven overs left in the innings is the perfect time for Pollard to come in.”

But Pollard didn’t take the above-mentioned comment in a good spirit and went lashing on Twitter. Apart from Pollard, former West Indies bowler Tino Best also sounded critical about the remarks took a jibe at Kevin Pietersen and Manjrekar.

It is also being said that the cricketer might have picked a wrong one- ‘brain’ in place of ‘range’. The Indian commentator didn’t respond to the tweet or to the controversy which is making the round in social media. This isn’t the first time when a commentator has took on West Indies players. Previously, during the World T20I last year, English commentator Mark Nicholas had said that the West Indies team is ‘short of brain’.

The then West Indies skipper Darren Sammy gave a fitting reply by winning the trophy and maybe in this case Pollard can do the same.
