Former legendary Indian batter Sachin Tendulkar scripted history when he not only became the first Indian but also the first-ever male cricketer to reach the landmark of a double century in one-day internationals. The master blaster achieved the feat against South Africa at the captain Roop Singh Stadium in Gwalior in the year 2010.
Overall, a total of eight players including five Indians have managed to reach the special landmark in the 50-overs format. After Tendulkar, it was the destructive and explosive opener Virender Sehwag who smashed a double hundred in ODIs. Sehwag smacked 219 off 149 against West Indies in Indore the following year in 2011.
Current team India captain Rohit Sharma is the only player in the history of the format to have slammed three double tons. His first one came against Australia at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore in 2013. The right-handed batter scored 209 off 158 with the help of 12 fours and 16 maximums.
It was Rohit again for the Men in Blue as he shattered a flurry of records against Sri Lanka at his favorite ground Eden Gardens in Kolkata in 2014. The Mumbai batter went berserk as he played a destructive knock of 264 off 173 with 33 fours and nine sixes. His innings is still the highest-ever individual score in the history of ODIs.
Rohit scripted history yet again when he slammed his third double hundred (208* off 153) against the same opposition Sri Lanka in Mohali three years later in 2017. Pocket-dynamo Ishan Kishan also etched his name into the history books when he struck 210 off just 131 against Bangladesh in Chattogram in December 2022. Another youngster Shubman Gill is the latest entrant in this elite list as he blasted 208 off 149 with 19 fours and nine sixes against New Zealand in Hyderabad in January 2023.
