Bangladesh will lock horns with Afghanistan in the 3rd ODI match of the Afghanistan tour of Bangladesh at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on July 11. Bangladesh enters the series with an excellent recent form but have lost it all in this series. Both the matches played in this ODI series have been won by Afghanistan, and have an unassailable lead of 2-0.
The last encounter between the two teams was the second ODI match of the series. The match was played at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on July 8, where Bangladesh had won the toss and had elected to field. Afghanistan had an exceptionally brilliant day on the field, breaking records as they kept on batting. Both their openers, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran, scored their respective centuries each as they made a record opening stand of 256 runs. Afghanistan posted a huge total of 331 runs on the board as they invited Bangladesh to chase the score.
Completely different from their counterparts, Bangladesh started horribly as they lost their first wicket early. None of the batters from their top order could score any significant runs for them. Even the middle order failed them, with the exception of Mushfiqur Rahim, who played a brilliant knock of 69 runs. However, he did not get much help from the other end as Bangladesh were bowled out at a mere total of 189 runs. Afghanistan won the match by a huge margin of 142 runs and have already claimed the series. Rahmanullah Gurbaz was awarded Player of the Match for his fantastic performance with the bat.
