Sussex will take on Essex in the 32nd match of the Vitality Blast 2023 on Thursday (June 1) at the County Ground in Hove. Sussex have won and lost one game each so far and are fifth in the rankings. Essex won their opening game against Gloucestershire and are in fourth place in the points table.

Sussex played their last game against Surrey and elected to field after winning the toss. The bowlers did a commendable job in restricting Surrey to just 148 runs. Ravi Bopara was the pick of the bowlers as he took three wickets for just 18 runs. In reply, Sussex lost four wickets for just 56 runs, but a partnership of 77 runs between Tom Alsop and Michael Burgess helped Sussex win the game on the penultimate delivery of their innings.

Essex won the toss and elected to bowl against Gloucestershire. They had a decent start to their innings, and an excellent finish by Ben Charlesworth helped Gloucestershire post a total of 195 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs. In reply, Robin Das played a blistering knock of 69 runs off 33 deliveries and took Essex over the line with five deliveries remaining.
