In a scathing letter to the members of the Marleybone Cricket Club (MCC) based at the home of cricket, Lord’s; one cannot enter the premise being sockless, among other things. The letter also states that torn, ripped and unclean clothes are also prohibited. Women wearing bikini tops, and tops and dresses showing bare midriff are strictly prohibited too.

The MCC is renowned for its strict code of conduct. No one, apart from the players and ground staff, is allowed to enter into the hallowed turfs of Lords without wearing a suit and tie with the emblem of the MCC on it. Thereby, the MCC felt the need to notify their members about the proper code of attire whilst in the premise of the Members’ Friends’ Enclosure.

“Members and their guests are expected to maintain an acceptable standard of dress while in the Members’ Friends’ Enclosures” states the letter. To avoid any embarrassment… members must ensure that their attire, and that of their guests, is appropriate. The minimum standard to enter the Members’ Friends’ Enclosures is “smart casual”, said the letter.

Further, the letter specifies that it is not mandatory to wear jackets but one must put on collared shirts within the premise of the stands. Also, MCC further added that shorts and trousers must be well tailored and wearing a denim is acceptable.”Jackets are not required, but gentlemen must wear collared shirts at all times in the stands. Shorts and trousers must be tailored, although denim is acceptable.” framed the letter.

Few of the members seemed elated after the recent set of guidelines were announced. “In one, a man wears brogues and a blue suit, his trouser leg hitched up to reveal a sockless, pale ankle. In the Pavilion, full-length socks must be worn” said a MCC member.”It is good to know the trend for going sockless will not be tolerated in the Lord’s Pavilion” he further added.

Richie Myler too seemed happy with these decision. “Everyone smokes, which isn’t great, And they don’t pick up dog poo, which is a bit like England 20 years ago” she commented.
