Mohammad Irfan, the left-arm pacer from Pakistan, is eager to make up for the lost time and return to cricket in the near future. He was snapped up by Multan Sultans in the players draft of Pakistan Super League (PSL) a few days ago. The bowler was banned for six months for his failure to report a spot-fixing approach made by the bookie. However, he is setting his sights to the upper echelons of cricket after spending his time on the sidelines.

Irfan became a household name soon after making his debut for his height. He last played for Pakistan in September 2016 against England in an ODI at Leeds. He has so far picked 83 wickets in 60 ODIs he has played but his Test career is unlikely to get going given his fitness issues and injury concerns. He has been part of the Test team only four times with only 10 wickets to his name.

Dream come true to play for Multan

Mohammad Irfan has revealed that the six month period when he was banned was very hard and his friends and family helped him a lot. “When I was banned from cricket after the Pakistan Super League, I was so confused about what to do, but my friends and family helped me and told me to focus on my cricket. I knew in my head that all I needed to do was ensure that my fitness levels don’t dip and I would return even stronger,” he was quoted as saying by The Express Tribune.

He also cleared that working hard while training was the only aim for him during that period and never doubted himself. “I spent most of my time training but at the back of my mind there was always this nagging doubt that made me question whether any of this is even going to pay off. Being picked by Multan was like a dream come true. Multan is my hometown so representing it would feel great,” he added and continued saying that he was pleased to work with Wasim Akram.

“Wasim helped me improve my bowling when I was with Islamabad. Now he is here as well so that is a great bonus for me. I am playing in the National T20 right now and I am quite optimistic that I can return to the national team if I can continue performing,” he concluded.
