In T20 cricket, we seldom see players scoring centuries given the scarcity of time and overs required to achieve the feat. It comes as no surprise that this is the case in the most famous T20 league of the world, i.e., the IPL as well. In this article, we will be discussing the performance of six players who have scored the most hundreds in the tournament so far.

Star Indian batter Virat Kohli has struck the most centuries (8) in the history of the league. The classy right-handed batter surpassed Chris Gayle and Jos Buttler's tally of six tons against Rajasthan Royals. Overall, he has scored 7624 runs in 236 innings at an average of 38.12 which includes 52 half-centuries.

A couple of seasons back, England's Jos Buttler went berserk, as there were several moments in time when he even looked like breaking Virat Kohli's record of 973 runs in a single season of the marquee league. The explosive right-handed batter hammered 863 runs in 17 innings at a solid average of 57.53 and a strike rate of 149.05, which included four centuries and as many fifties. Buttler single-handedly took his Rajasthan Royals side into the final of IPL 2022 but failed to win it as the Gujarat Titans completely dominated the game in all aspects. With this, he stands second for hitting seven hundreds in the history of the tournament.

The next name is a very familiar name in the world of T20 cricket. Chris Gayle, who is arguably the greatest T20 player of all time, has smashed six centuries in the cash-rich league. His first hundred in the IPL came in 2011 against KKR at the scenic Eden Gardens, where he played a brilliant knock of 102* off 55 deliveries, which included 10 fours and 7 sixes. His last ton in the IPL came against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2018, in a game he scored an unbeaten 104* off 63. This was the same season where he was unsold in the first round of the auction but was picked by the Punjab franchise as they onboarded him in the third round at his base price of INR 2 crore.

KL Rahul is joint-third with two other Australians, David Warner and Shane Watson, for slamming four centuries in IPL's history. The right-handed batter who already had two tons previously, smashed two more in the second-last edition. In the 2023 edition, Rahul scored 392 runs in 14 innings at an average of 28.00 and a strike rate of 139.01, with four fifties to his name.

David Warner, who is considered one of the most successful overseas players of the tournament, has also smacked four tons so far. He scored his first ton back in 2010 while playing for the Delhi team against KKR and achieved the landmark again in 2012, against the now-defunct Deccan Chargers. Later, he got his first century while playing for the Sunrisers Hyderabad against KKR in 2017. In an IPL 2019 game against RCB, he along with Jonny Bairstow, got centuries in the same match.

Another Aussie, Shane Watson, also has four tons in the tournament. He played an instrumental role in helping Rajasthan Royals clinch the title in the inaugural season, bagging the Player of the Tournament in the inaugural edition of the tournament. In the 2018 final against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, he played a magnificent innings of 117 in 57 balls, helping Chennai Super Kings become the champion for the third time in their history.
