The chairman of selectors MSK Prasad has revealed that veteran Team India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has been given rest and not dropped from the limited overs series against Sri Lanka, starting from August 20 onwards. He has also said that the selectors have considered a rotation policy, where a set of players will be given opportunity in the coming 4-5 months. The Indian squad was announced for the Sri Lankan tour yesterday and quite a few big names went missing.
Struggling to score
Apart from Yuvraj, middle-order batsman Suresh Raina also failed to make the cut. Yuvraj was struggling during the champions trophy in England earlier this year. Apart from a fifty against Pakistan, the southpaw failed to put on valuable scores in the rest of the games. Raina too looked out of touch in the international arena. He last played for India in the T2oI series against England earlier this year. Manish Pandey got a call-up, following his good run in the tri-nation series in South Africa.
It was also been reported that skipper Virat Kohli will be rested for the ODI series but the skipper ruled out such talks and he was named in the squad for the series yesterday. Spin-duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja were rested considering their heavy workload through out the Test season.
Replacements?
Chinaman Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal has been named as the replacements. Yuvraj, who was last seen during the ODI series in West Indies failed to score up big numbers. His last few knocks read- 39,14,4,22,-,23*,7,53.
It was believed that this might be the end of the road for the 35-year old but the ongoing rotation policy ensures that Yuvraj has the selectors backing. This will come as a relief for Raina too, who was dejected following his exclusion from the limited over series against Sri Lanka.
