The inaugural edition of the Mzansi Super League (MSL) has created quite a buzz in the first few matches itself. Also, with the players from the national side joining their respective teams in full tilt now, the crowd is also increasing at the stadiums. In the 14th match of the season, Durban Heat and Paarl Rocks will lock horns at the Kingsmead on Wednesday.

The Rocks will be on a high after registering their first win of the season over the best of the tournament so far, Cape Town Blitz. With Faf du Plessis coming in the team, their batting has bolstered and it was visible in that game. They would be keen on continuing with the winning momentum now with the competition moving fast. Also, with a victory they can climb to the third position straightaway.

On the contrary, the Heat are coming off a thumping loss at the hands of the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants. It has been a topsy turvy season for them so far with alternative results in every game. Accordingly, they should win this game but this kind of inconsistency may not serve them better results going forward in the tournament. Being the home game might just spur the Heat and turn around their campaign.

Pitch and Conditions

In the two games at the Kingsmead, middling scores have been registered by the team batting first and the trend is likely to continue for this encounter as well. But the weather for the game is not so ideal with close to 50 percent chances of rain.

Team Combinations

Durban Heat

Morne van Wyk and Hashim Amla will continue to open for the Heat with the duo complimenting each other well. The form of their number three and four, Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller, would be a worry for them and they wil soon need to hit the straps now. The skipper Albie Morkel was injured in the last game and is in serious doubt to even feature again in the tournament. In that case, Khaya Zondo will take over the captaincy like he did in the second innings of the previous match.

Prenelen Subrayen will be a like for like replacement for Morkel who is also the all-rounder. Kyle Abbott and Keshav Maharaj are the key bowlers for the team and they will look to continue their good form.

Probable XI: Hashim Amla, Morne van Wyk (wk), Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Khaya Zondo (c), Prenelen Subrayen, Vernon Philander, Keshav Maharaj, Kyle Abbott, Marchant de Lange, Tladi Bokako.

Paarl Rocks

With Aiden Markram coming into the side, Michael Klinger’s batting position is under the scanner. In the last match, he was slated to bat at eight which is too late. He might make way for a natural hitter in Patrick Kruger who can offer a few valuable overs with the ball as well. The rest of the line-up is expected to be the same with the Rocks looking a much more settled team thanks to Du Plessis coming to lead the side.

Probable XI: Aiden Markram, Henry Davids, Faf du Plessis (c), Vaughn van Jaarsveld (wk), David Wiese, Mangaliso Mosehle (wk), Patrick Kruger, Bjorn Fortuin, Dane Paterson, Tshepo Moreki, Tabraiz Shamsi.

Probable Top Performers

David Miller – Durban Heat | Aiden Markam – Paarl Rocks
