Any sportsperson would be happy to hear that a movie is being made about his/her life, highlighting the struggles and achievements of their journey. But then there is the story of Pravin Tambe, the cricketer from Maharashtra, who played the sport with a dream of representing Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy and made his way into the Indian Premier League at the age of 41.

Though short, Tambe has achieved many laurels in his career. He registered his career-best bowling figures in 2014 when he represented the Rajasthan Royals against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Tambe has faced many hardships in his life, and struggling in his cricket career was one. His biopic has rightly portrayed his journey, as he fulfilled his childhood dream of becoming a professional cricketer.

“I’m not Tendulkar, Dhoni or Kohli, why do they want to make a movie on me?”- That was Tambe’s reaction when the production house approached him, as quoted by The Indian Express. But little did he know, the concept was not arrived at based on his popularity, but because of the reason that he was one of the oldest cricketers to make his way to the big stage.

Arre yeh toh mere he story hai: Pravin Tambe recalls his reaction while watching his biopic

The movie made thousands and millions of people aware of Tambe as a cricketing personality and his journey. While speaking of watching the movie, he said that his family members had watched the movie before him, and started praising the film and revealing the story, when he asked them about it and requested them to stop before he had finished watching it

“I asked my wife and my brother, how was it? They all said it’s too good. They were telling me the story, I said, no-no, please don’t, let me watch the movie myself. Then I laughed, arre yeh toh mere he story hai, (this is my story, only!)” he blushed.

His story came to notice when Rahul Dravid, the current coach of the Indian team shared Tambe’s life story in front of a crowd at an event. But the video of the event went viral after a really long period, and when it did, Tambe’s life took a turn.

“My phone hasn’t stopped buzzing. There have been thousands of messages on my phone. Earlier, I used to get messages from cricketing circles but now I am getting messages from corporates and other sectors. It means the movie has touched many,” he says.
