Netherlands’ all-rounder Ryan ten Doeschate has bid adieu to international cricket after making his debut way back in 2006. The 41-year-old recently played in the T20 World Cup 2021 where the Dutch, captained by Peiter Seelaar, failed to qualify for the Super 12s. After scoring a duck against Ireland, he didn’t get a chance to bat in the game against Namibia.

The veteran didn’t play in the Netherlands’ inconsequential match against Sri Lanka on Friday, October 22. After hanging his boots, Ten Doeschate expressed gratitude towards Dutch cricket and also lauded the team management for lending him support throughout his career.

I’m grateful to the players, coaches and everyone involved, says Ryan ten Doeschate

“It’s been a tough tour to finish on but it’s been a pleasure to be a part of the efforts again. It has always been a privilege to represent The Netherlands,” Ten Doeschate was quoted as saying in a Cricket Netherlands (KNCB) statement.

“The professionalism and dedication that this team and support staff have shown has been inspirational. I’m grateful to the players, coaches and everyone involved with the KNCB for allowing me to have enjoyed some of the spectacular highs of international cricket,” he added.

Ryan Campbell, the head coach of the Netherlands, also had words of praises for Ten Doeschate. “Doeschate represented Dutch cricket hope. Sometimes words don’t mean enough when summing up someone’s career. It has been an honour for me as a coach to have him,” Campbell said.

“His skill, knowledge of the game & calmness under pressure was outstanding. Finally, he represented cricket hope to the Dutch, he gave us a belief that we could compete against anyone. He will be sorely missed as a player,” he added.

Doeschate had a short, but illustrious career for the Netherlands at the highest level. In 33 ODIs and 24 T20Is, he smashed over 2000 runs with five centuries and 12 half-centuries. In the 2011 World Cup, Doeschate got centuries against England and Ireland.

He also played five years for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League and was the first Dutch player to bag such a contract. Moreover, he was a part of KKR’s title-winning team twice in 2012 and 2014 respectively.
