Makhaya Ntini is one of those characters in cricket who you cannot hate. He is that loveable cricketer who won your hearts with his broad smile and humble nature. He was competitive but left the bitterness on the field. Ntini is now the coach of depleted Zimbabwean team. He is trying to revive Zimbabwe from their miserable condition.

Ntini recently got cosy in an interview and talked about India, South Africa and also about Champions Trophy as a whole. However, he also had a thing or two to say about India’s former captain MS Dhoni who he played under in the IPL for Chennai Super Kings.

On India’s pacers

India have always struggled on the fast bowling front but in the last few years, they have produced some outstanding bowlers. Be it Umesh Yadav or Mohammed Shami or Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, everyone is better than the other.

However, Ntini feels that India need to pick Bhuvaneshwar if they want to succeed in England. He believes that Bhuvi is India’s number one fast bowler in those conditions because of his ability to swing the ball. He heaped praises on this Indian bowler and said that he can do anything he wants with the ball.

“You need to have Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the playing XI. If you don’t have that little boy, you’re missing the point. That young man, with the conditions that you’d be facing in England, he’s No 1. He can swing the ball, he can do anything that he wants to with the ball,” the former Protea pacer said.

On MS Dhoni

Ntini was a part of the IPL in the early days and loved it there. Dhoni recently has been questioned of his role in the Indian team. To this Makhaya had a fitting answer. He said that MS Dhoni is a kind of player who rises up when all the chips are against him.

Ntini said, “You never doubt Dhoni. He can never be finished. That guy can take the game away any given time. You give him the game, he’ll do what he wants to do. He’s a legend. The moment you write him off, he rises up.”
