During the last couple of weeks, the cricketing world has been a witness to some severe altercations on the cricket pitch. The Test series between Australia and South Africa, and the tri-series involving Sri Lanka, India, and Bangladesh are currently underway. Apart from some riveting cricket, the events have also seen some players facing punishment.

Recently, Kagiso Rabada was banned for the remainder of the series after he was found guilty for barging into Steve Smith in his follow-up. Yesterday, Shakib Al Hasan and Nurul Hasan were involved in some heated moments. Subsequently, they were handed a fine of 25 percent of their match-fees and one demerit point each for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct.

Harsha Bhogle, an eminent cricket broadcaster, threw light on both the incidents. The commentator also highlighted the stark difference between the punishments which were declared in a space of four weeks. Moreover, he also doesn’t want Rabada to get aware of the incident.

He wrote “Getting one demerit point and losing 25% of the match fee for what happened yesterday, #BANvsSL, is like getting a pat on the back. I hope Rabada doesn’t see what happened. This was as close to a punch-up as you will see. Very mystifying.”

An animated Nidahas Trophy

The T20 triangular series has dished out some jaw-dropping cricket and a couple of games went right down to the wire, which kept the players as well as the audience on the edge of their seats. However, the recent incidents tend to have overshadowed the quality of cricket on display.

Cricket is a gentleman’s game and players should be matured enough in their approach while representing the nation. Such incidents don’t not only mar the reputation of cricketers but also tarnish the reputation of cricket in the entire nation. Meanwhile, the stage is set for the Final showdown between India and Bangladesh on Sunday at Colombo.
