Prior to the start of the third edition of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL), the Supreme Court said that the players associated with other cricket associations will not be eligible to take part in the cricketing extravaganza organised by the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association. Previously, the TNCA had permitted to induct two players after they procure NOC’s from their cricket associations.

Advocate Ranjit Kumar, appearing for TNPL, submitted their plea requesting the court to allow outstation players in the event. However, Parag Tripathi, appearing for the Committee of Administrators mentioned that the CoA has rejected the same bearing in mind the draft constitution of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Nevertheless, a bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra said that the event will take place as per schedule.

Dragons versus Warriors on Day 1 of TNPL 3

The upcoming season of the TNPL is scheduled to start from today (July 11). A total of 32 matches will be played over a period of around five weeks. The first match of the season will be played between the Dindigul Dragons and the Ruby Trichy Warriors. Both teams finished at the bottom-half of the points table last time and would be keen to make amends in this time around.

The tournament has eight teams and each of them was allowed to constitute a pool of 20 players. Back in May, the draft of the tournament was conducted and a number of marquee players went under the hammer. Ravichandran Ashwin, India’s ace-spinner in the Test format, was retained by Dindigul.

Murali Vijay will play for the Warriors and both of the national team’s stalwarts are likely to be on the show tonight in Tirunelveli. The opening encounter is scheduled to start at 07:15 PM Local Time. Chepauk Super Gillies are the defending champions and their first contest is on July 14 against the Warriors.
