David Warner is among the very best in world cricket at the present point in time and he has proved it time and again. However, at times, even he has been caught napping, showing that even the best is prone to mistakes and moments of discomfort. In the second T20I against England at the Rose Bowl in Southampton, the left-hander was caught off-guard while facing Jofra Archer.

In the third delivery of the very first over, Warner fell prey to the Barbados-born speedster. Archer is known to hurry the batters with his sheer pace and he spewed venom yet again, giving England their first breakthrough in the match. He bowled a back-of-a-length delivery that jagged back sharply into the left-handed Warner, who had very little clue of dealing with the same.

The batsman was in no position to play any shot whatsoever. Taking sort of an evasive action, Warner said ‘Oh Jesus’ after getting beaten. Thereafter, Warner took the Decision Review System (DRS) after the on-field umpire adjudged him out, caught behind. However, to his dismay, replays showed that the leather had brushed his gloves before keeper Alex Carey took a decent catch.

In the first game, Warner churned out 58 runs, but he flattered to deceive in the second. In the end, the Three Lions, led by Eoin Morgan, went on to win the match by six wickets. The Aussies, after being put in to bat first, scored 157 for the loss of seven wickets. Skipper Aaron Finch top-scored for them with a 33-ball 40, including four fours and two massive sixes.

Marcus Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell and Ashton Agar scored in the 20s and 30s to propel the visitors to a respectable score. During the run-chase, Jonny Bairstow, Tom Banton and skipper Morgan got out in the single digits. However, Jos Buttler’s 77 off 54 balls and a six-ball 13 cameo from Moeen Ali helped the home team win the game with seven balls to spare.

For Archer, it was a decent outing as he gave away 32 runs in his four overs, picking up Warner’s wicket and bowling 12 dot balls. The third and final T20I will take place on Tuesday, September 8.
