Around 19 Pakistani players stand a chance to lose a hefty amount as their participation in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2017 is not confirmed. It hangs in balance due to their domestic National T20 tournament, followed by a Twenty20 International series against West Indies which conflict with the BPL schedule.

The National Twenty20 starting in Faisalabad from November 11 will conclude on November 28 and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has made participation compulsory for the Pakistani players. If any centrally contracted player fails to report for the tournament, they will not be in the pool for selection for the national team.

“Players need to take part in the national event but can go to Bangladesh after November 17, but that too is subject to the three-match series against Windies next month,” said Rasheed.

There exists a possibility that the Pakistani players will be able to play in the BPL, after the 17th of November. It is also subjected to the series against Windies that kicks off later next month. Pakistani skipper Sarfraz Ahmed will lose $US 50,000 for missing the first half of the tournament.

Other players involved

The Pakistani players are now focusing on getting a contract only for the last 15 days of the tournament, including the skipper himself. As per reports, Comilla Victorians, one of the franchises, have five players signed for the 2017 BPL and amongst them Shoaib Malik, Rumman Raees, Hasan Ali and Faheem Ashraf are regular members of the Pakistan team. Imran Khan Junior is the only player who could be available after November 17.

Rajshahi Kings, another franchise, will have Mohammad Sami, Usaman Mir and Raza Ali Dar available after Pakistan’s domestic T20 event. Chittagong Vikings meanwhile, will have both Misbah-ul-Haq and Yasir Arafat while Dhaka Dynamites have Shahid Afridi, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Mohammad Amir signed up.

Former Pakistan captain Afridi will play the entirety of the tournament, with the other players missing out on the majority of the matches.
