Pakistan v West Indies, 1st T20I – Statistical Highlights

Coming in from a 9-wicket win in their previous T20I against the WT20 runners England, the Pakistan repeated the same against the champions of the WT20, West Indies in an emphatic way in the first T20I at Dubai. After electing to bowl, Pakistan reduced the Caribbean side to 48/8, who recovered and got bowled out for 115. Pakistan chased down the target without and hiccups. They finished the game with 34 balls to spare by losing only 1 wicket.

 Here we look at all the stats and records recorded during the game:

1 – Imad Wasim became the first spinner to take a 5-wicket haul in both ODIs and T20Is in a calendar year. In fact he only the 2nd bowler to take a 5-fer in both ODIs and T20Is in a calendar year. Lasith Malinga achieved this unique feat in 2012.

2 – Pakistan is only the 2nd team to win by 9 or more wickets margin in consecutive T20Is. Kenya won by 9+ wickets margin in 3 consecutive T20Is in 2010.

2 – Only the 2nd time West Indies lost in a T20I in 2016. Their first loss in this format in 2016 was vs Afghanistan in the WT20.

2 – Bravo-Taylor’s fifty-run stand was only the 2nd fifty-run stand for 9th wicket in T20 cricket which came after the team lost its first 8 wickets inside 50 runs. Other instance was by Tamil Nadu vs Andhra in 2015.

3 – Imad Wasim’s five-wicket haul was the 3rd 5-fer by a Pakistani in T20Is. Previous two were on Umar Gul’s name.

8 – Wickets taken by Pakistan left-arm bowlers in this game. These are the most wickets taken by left-arm bowlers in a T20I innings.

5/14 – Imad Wasim’s figures of 5/14 are the best figures against West Indies for any bowler in T20Is. This is also the 3rd best performance by a left-arm spinner in T20Is and the 4th occasion of a left-arm spinner taking a 5-fer in this format.

22 – Score at which West Indies lost their 5th wicket in this game. This is the lowest score in T20Is at which West Indies lost their 5th wicket. Previous lowest was 39 vs Zimbabwe in 2010.

34 – Pakistan’s win with 34 balls to spare is their 3rd largest win in T20Is in terms of balls remaining.

37 – Score at which South Africa lost their 8th wicket vs West Indies in a T20I in 2007. It was the lowest at which a Test playing nation lost its 8th wicket in a T20I. West Indies’ 48/8 in this game is the 2nd worst.

48 – Score at which West Indies lost their 8th wicket in this game. They never lost more than 5 wickets inside 50 runs in T20Is before this game.

50 – Balls taken by Dwayne Bravo for his fifty in this game. This is the slowest fifty by a West Indian in T20Is. Previous slowest was in 49 balls by Devon Smith in 2007 vs Bangladesh.

66 – Partnership stand between Bravo and Taylor is the highest stand for 9th wicket in overall T20 cricket. Previous highest was 64 between H Zoysa and K Magage in a Sri Lankan domestic T20 game in 2012.
