Praveen Kumar reminisces Sanjay Dutt’s iconic Vaastav look with the ’50 tola’ gold chain

Praveen Kumar retired from all forms of cricket back in October 2018. It brought to an end his 13-year-old journey on the field after making his List A debut back in January 2005. He was one, who could move the ball both ways and that used to be quite some headache for batters around the world. The 33-year-old didn’t have pace on his side, yet tasted success at the highest level.

Apart from his bowling, the speedster was also known for his golden chain, which used to pop out in his bowling follow through. Back in 2014, he had a bad experience as his gold chain worth rupees eight lakhs was lost. He had left the 250-gram gold chain on the chair at the VCA dressing room before going to the field for Uttar Pradesh’s Vijay Hazare Trophy match against Rajasthan.

Later, he informed the same to the officials, but it couldn’t be found, much to his dismay. “After the match, Kumar went straight to the hotel but later realized that he had forgotten to collect the gold chain from the dressing room. He immediately informed the VCA officials about it. However, a search by them proved futile,” the statement of Police read.

Recently, he posted a picture where he was seen wearing the chain. He captioned the picture and wrote, “When I took Sanju baba too seriously @duttsanjay “yeh dekh maa 50 tola.” ????????????????????.” The caption he used is a popular dialogue of Sanjay Dutt’s movie Vaastav, which hit the screens way back on October 7, 1999.

As far his cricket career is concerned, after retirement, he plied his trade in the T10 League at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. In the tournament, he played three matches and picked up six wickets. He made his international debut back in 2007, the same year when India won the T20 World Cup.

In six Tests, 68 ODIs and 10 T20Is, Praveen churned out 27, 77 and eight wickets respectively. He was no mug with the bat with a solitary half-century in ODIs. His last appearance was in a T20I against South Africa in 2012 at the Wanderers in Johannesburg.
