The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) last week promoted several cricketers to the platinum category ahead of the fourth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) T20 tournament scheduled in February-March next year. It also marked the start of the retention and transfer window for the franchises ahead of the 2019 edition. A number of current and former players, already under contract with the franchises, were included in the elite category.

On Thursday, the PCB came up with the list of the foreign players in the platinum list for the upcoming season and it included some of the biggest names that are associated with the game today. A few of them have already quit the game but yet their impact is far from over and would earn a berth in a playing XI on any day for their potential destructive power.

AB de Villiers and Smith in the list

The 15 players mentioned in the platinum list are: AB de Villiers (South Africa), Steve Smith (Australia), Chris Lynn (Australia), Brendon McCullum (New Zealand), Colin Munro (New Zealand), Luke Ronchi (New Zealand), Dwayne Bravo (Windies), Sunil Narine (Windies), Kieron Pollard (Windies), Imran Tahir (South Africa), Colin Ingram (South Africa), Mitchell McClenaghan (New Zealand), Thisara Perera (Sri Lanka), Rashid Khan (Afghanistan) and Shane Watson (Australia).

After the retention and trading window for the 2019 edition of the PSL opened on September 29, the teams were given an option of retaining up to 10 players in the team. All players must enter the players’ draft to get picked for the tournament. The ones who were picked up last year have had their categories updated if required. The list of players who were not there with any team last year will see their categories released in the near future.

The likes of De Villiers and Smith are set to appear in the PSL for the first time and their presence in the tournament which is gaining popularity every year will add more to the grand factor.
