Peshawar Zalmi suffered a five-wicket loss against Islamabad United in the Eliminator one of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2022 at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on February 24. The loss has thereby ended the Wahab Riaz-led side’s campaign this year. Even though Peshawar lost the hard-fought contest, one of their star pacers Salman Irshad has won praises for his outstanding bowling performances in the contest.

While the Pakistan cricketing icons including the likes of Shoaib Akhtar and Salman Butt were really impressed with his bowling speed, fast bowling legend Waqar Younis has also come forward and given a special mention to Irshad for his unique bowling spell that took the game right down to the wire.

Taking to the micro-blogging site, the former Pakistan skipper congratulated the emerging fast bowler for his speed and accuracy as he wrote ‘Super Spell. Good speed and accuracy. Purani yaadain taza kar deen with those beautiful inswinging Yorkers’.

Salman Irshad was outstanding with the ball in hand in the PSL 2022 Eliminator 1. He castled Islamabad’s in-form opener Alex Hales who was threatening to take the match away from Zalmi. Salman then picked up the key wicket of power-hitter Asif Ali to put United in a spot of bother. Apart from that he also got rid of skipper Shadab Khan and finished his spell with figures of 3/31 from his four overs at an economy of 7.75.

Chasing a tricky total of 170, Islamabad United seemed to be losing their way but, youngster Azam Khan’s 28-run knock kept them in the hunt before he was sent back on the first ball of the final over by Benny Howell. With 10 to get off five deliveries, Liam Dawson completed the formalities with a six and a four of the next two balls as Islamabad got home with three balls to spare.

The United will now be facing Lahore Qalandars in a virtual semifinal, the Eliminator two at the same venue on February 25, and the winner of that contest will meet the title-holders Multan Sultans in the final on the 27th.
