Wasim Jaffer scaled greater heights on the third day of the quarterfinals of the Ranji Trophy 2018-19 with his splendid knock. The 40-year-old who went into bat with an overnight score of 111 registered a double century in the tournament. His 206 assisted by a 98 from Akshay Wadkar helped Vidarbha extend their lead to a massive 204 runs at the close of play. The game against Uttarakhand is likely to end in a draw and both the teams are battling hard to gain an upper hand.

In the second quarterfinal match, Uttar Pradesh managed to bundle Saurashtra out for 208 runs in their first innings. However, when the team was back on the field to bat in the second innings, they struggled miserably. Dharmendrasinh Jadeja continued with his good form in the season and picked up a four-wicket haul. Uttar Pradesh is now reeling at 172/8 and it might not take too long to bowl them out. Yet, the team has got a 349-run lead already which is quite huge going into the last day.

Gujarat knocked out of the tournament

The pendulum is swinging either way at all times in the third quarterfinal between Karnataka and Rajasthan. Carrying on with an overnight score of 11/0, the latter side was bundled out for 222 courtesy a four-wicket haul from Krishnappa Gowtham and a three-wicket haul from Shreyas Gopal. Defending a mere target of only 184 runs, Rajasthan forged back into the game with three early wickets. Karnataka still needs 139 runs more to win the game and are 45/3 at the moment.

The game between Kerala and Gujarat was sure to yield a result on Day 3. While the odds were in the favour of Gujarat at the close of play on yesterday, Kerala fought their way back beautifully. Basil Thampi’s five-wicket haul complemented by a four-wicket haul from Sandeep Warrier helped bowl Gujarat out for only 81 runs. Thus, Kerala was handed over a victory of 113 runs and will make their way into the semi-final of the Ranji Trophy. For his 8-wicket haul in the game, Thampi was adjudged the Man of the Match.
