Ranji Trophy 2018-19, Round 4, Day 3 - Round up

It was one of the most fascinating days of cricket in the Ranji Trophy on Friday which saw some stupendous individual performances bailed their respective sides out of trouble. While Punjab registered a bonus-point win over last season’s runners Delhi, Assam garnered a blockbuster win against a much-stronger side in Haryana.

Without a shadow of a doubt, the performer of the round was Parvez Rasool, who registered eight wickets with the ball in the first innings for Jammu & Kashmir and backed it up with a hundred. Services needed just 105 runs to win the game, but slipped to a paltry 67/5 and the game very much hangs in balance. Rasool completed ten wickets in the game as well with a brace in the second innings.

Punjab and Delhi were expected to play a hard-fought contest, but as it turned out, the former were too strong. Vinay Choudhary and Mayank Markande completed the demolition with the ball on Day 3 as Punjab were left with just eight runs to win, which they chased down in 2.1 overs. Mandeep Singh was named man of the match for his 90-run knock in the first innings.

Sachin Baby and Vishnu Vinod lead Kerala’s mind-boggling comeback

Kerala kick-started day 3 at 38/4 and with a humongous lead in tact, Madhya Pradesh were expected to seal an easy win. But skipper Sachin Baby and Vishnu Vinod registered centuries apart while adding 199 runs for the 7th wicket and helped their side get to 390/8 at stumps. Vinod will continue his 70-run stand for the 9th wicket with Basil Thampi on Day 4.

Mumbai took a slender, yet crucial first innings lead against Gujarat on Day 3, but a top order collapse brought the latter right back in the game. Mumbai were struggling at 66/6 but Aditya Tare and Shivam Dubey somehow helped them get over the 150-run mark. They currently have a second innings lead of 173 runs.

Kedar Devdhar slammed a sensational hundred for Baroda in reply to Saurashtra’s 521. Devdhar stitched a 110-run sand with Aditya Waghmode and followed it up with a 158-run unbeaten stand with Vikram Solanki. Baroda finished day 3 at 268/1 in 92 overs and it seems in all likeliness that both sides will suffice with a point each. Here are the scores from the other games happening across the country.
