Ranji Trophy 2019-20: Round 9, Day 3- Round-Up

The third day in the ninth round of Ranji Trophy 2019-20 culminated with many teams cruising to the victory. A couple of teams had registered a victory on Day 2 itself and the remaining teams accomplished the task on Day 3.

Meghalaya thumped Arunachal Pradesh by registering victory by a margin of an innings and 248 runs. After gathering 576 runs in their first innings, Meghalaya’s bowling force decimated Arunachal Pradesh in both the innings. Arunachal Pradesh was restricted to totals of 222 and 106 in their first and second innings respectively. Meghalaya skipper Puneet Bisht was adjudged Man of the Match for his brilliant knock of 250 runs.

Chandigarh also followed Meghalaya’s trail and registered a massive victory over Manipur. Chandigarh amassed a mammoth total of 672 in their first innings on the back of double tons by Bipul Sharma and Gurinder Singh. Manipur, who could not succumb against a formidable bowling attack of Chandigarh, couldn’t put up a batting show in both the innings.

Jagjit Singh plunged misery on Manipur’s bowling force as he scalped seven wickets to steer Chandigarh to the triumph. Gurinder Singh was awarded Man of the Match for his stellar batting performance.

Meanwhile, Karnataka also thrashed Baroda by eight wickets as the latter was inefficient in gathering a competitive total in their second innings. Despite strong individual batting performances by Baroda, they could only gather 296 runs on the board in the second innings. Karnataka, led by Karun Nair, hunted down the total with eight wickets to spare. Skipper Nair was picked Man of the Match for his impressive batting display in both the innings.

Bengal also registered a 48-run victory over Punjab and clinched six points. Punjab‘s hapless batting line-up was evident in their second innings as no other batsman apart from Ramandeep Singh could play a big knock. Singh, who scored 69*, couldn’t get the assistance from his teammates.

Shahbaz Ahmed’s four-wicket haul decimated Punjab’s batting force in the second innings as they gathered 141 runs on the board. Manoj Tiwary, who smashed half-centuries in both the innings of Bengal, was adjudged Player of the Match.
