As Team India prepares for the big night of the final in the nets at The Oval they received a scare. A day ahead of the summit clash with arch-rivals Pakistan off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin hurt his right knee during the fielding drills. He appeared to be in a lot of pain and halted the fielding practice midway.

The offie who isn’t the fastest on the field in an otherwise agile Indian team was training alongside the Indian top order with captain Virat Kohli and the opening pair of Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma. The Indian fielding coach R Sridhar was giving them catches and while grabbing one of those Ashwin fell down with the entire weight of the body on his right knee and that is how he hurt himself.

Patrick Farhart rushes in

He was out of action for almost 30 minutes and didn’t practice fielding again but after being attended by physio Patrick Farhart who got there immediately after noticing that their premier tweaker was in trouble. Patric had a close look and asked Ashwin to use the ice pack.

He took a break from the training, Farhat then asked him to make a few short strides and Ashwin was wearing a knee cap and returned to the nets. He looked quite comfortable while bowling and thus the injury doesn’t appear to be a concern for either him or the team.

Kumble works with Bumrah and Pandya

On the other part of the ground, Indian head coach Anil Kumble was working with two of the youngest yet crucial members of the team pacer Jasprit Bumrah and allrounder Hardik Pandya. He set up a marker around the crease and both of them were asked to pitch the ball in the block hole.

Kumble was pleased whenever Hardik hit the target as his overs are crucial for Team India and his natural short of good length deliveries are easy fodders for the batsmen in English conditions.
