Sanjay Goenka, the owner of the Rising Pune Supergiant recently was in the news for a lot of reasons. He changed the name of the Indian Premier League (IPL) side from Rising Pune Supergiants to Rising Pune Supergiant. It is believed that Goenka is a firm follower of numerology, hence the change.
The MS Dhoni-led side RPS finished second last in their debut season while their counterparts Gujarat Lions went on to top the table. Goenka, hence, also took a huge decision of dropping MS Dhoni from the captain’s seat and announcing Australian Steve Smith as the captain.
There are a lot of big names in the team and that may be a problem of sorts. However, Smith rubbished it as he said that he is on good terms with the former Indian captain MS Dhoni. He said, “There are no issues between MS Dhoni and me. We have shared some messages, MS Is very supportive and there is no change in my professional relationship with him or anyone else.”
RPS also launched their jersey for this edition of the IPL. They have changed the name of the team but they have not taken any effort to change the jersey. It is the same as last year with only one major change. Their title sponsor is now Moto India.
Some of the big names from the RPS team attended the event. Steve Smith the captain, Ajinkya Rahane, the star batter and the big money grab of this year’s IPL auction Ben Stokes were present at the event. The jersey is a collage of different colours with the Moto India’s logo at the center.
Sanjay Goenka will be hoping for a big change in fortune as last year’s season saw a team of stars just underperform immensely. Dhoni was not able to recreate his magic from his Chennai Super Kings days. However, with a new captain and some fantastic additions to the squad Rising Pune Supergiant will look to dominate this season.
