Rohit Sharma on the brink of another milestone ahead of Wellington ODI

Albeit he hasn’t hasn’t been able to cement his place in the Test side, Rohit Sharma undoubtedly has carved himself a reputation as one of the most dependable top-order batsman India have ever produced in limited-overs cricket. In the first part of his career, he used to throw his wicket away to rash strokes, but gradually, he matured as a batsman and has grown leaps and bounds.
Last year, the Nagpur-born racked up over 1000 ODI runs and also captained India to a couple of titles- Nidahas Trophy in Sri Lanka and the Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The 31-year-old is currently plying his trade as the acting skipper in the absence of Virat Kohli in the ongoing five-match ODI series against New Zealand that the visiting team is leading by 3-1.

The Men in Blue are next scheduled to play the fifth and final ODI on Sunday at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington. In the meantime, Rohit is on the cusp of another milestone in his illustrious career. Presently he boasts of 22 ODI centuries in 200 matches at an average of 47.88 and is the joint third-highest century maker for India with Sourav Ganguly, who has as many tons in 308 games.
Rohit would want to surpass Dada, as Ganguly is popularly known, in the next encounter and guide his team through to victory after the eight-wicket defeat at the Seddon Park in Hamilton. From the personal viewpoint, Rohit has had a satisfying series as he is the third highest run-scorer in the series against the Black Caps with 167 runs at a decent average of 41.75 with two-half centuries.
In the first match at the McLean Park in Napier, he couldn’t deliver and got out for 11. However, he was back to his very best in the second game at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui where he notched 87 runs. At the same venue, Rohit scored 62 in the third ODI. He was dismissed for seven in the last match.
