Australian cricket has been a hotbed of controversies for several years, owing to their antics on the field. They have been involved some heated altercations and some unsportsmanlike behaviour, which hasn’t been appreciated by the cricketing fraternity. The ongoing Test has been a witness to some shameful incident which has panned out as the game has progressed.

However, the biggest of the lot sparked during the post-lunch session of the third day’s play of the third Test. Cameron Bancroft was caught hiding a sharp object inside his underpants. He was suspected to having used it for altering the shape of the leather. However, afterwards, he pleaded guilty to the shambolic crime in Cape Town.

Meanwhile, in the press conference after the completion of play yesterday, Steve Smith confessed to having involved in the crime and also iterated about his knowledge of the matter in advance. Subsequently, he stepped down from captaincy for the remainder of the current Test. Also, he has been a handed a ban for one Test along with a fine of 100 percent of his match fees.

The criticisms hurled by RP Singh

Even Bancroft was slapped with a fine of 75 percent of his match fees. Several cricketers have questioned Steve Smith’s tenure as the skipper of the national team. Meanwhile, RP Singh, the Indian left-hander fast bowler has also opined on the matter. In his tweet, he has affirmed the act as disgraceful and has stated that Smith should step down permanently from captaincy in order to set an example.

He wrote “That #SteveSmith along with other senior players planned Ball Tampering is disappointing, but he involved young Cameron Bancroft in the plan is disgraceful. I believe he should take responsibility & step down from captaincy immediately to set a better example instead. #AusVsSa “
