‘Roar of the Lion’ – the Hotstar docu-drama on Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Chennai Super Kings’s (CSK) return to the tournament after serving two years of suspension in 2018 and winning the title straightaway has already made some noise. In the series, CSK captain MS Dhoni is seen narrating the story of their comeback overcoming all odds to the fans. It wasn’t an easy journey for the yellow jerseys as they had to fight the odds but eventually, their hard work and commitment paid off.
CSK came back to the IPL after two years in 2018 and lifted the title
CSK, which has been the most consistent team in the IPL since the tournament’s inception in 2008, was handed a two-year suspension along with Rajasthan Royals in connection to a spot-fixing controversy. They missed the 2016 and 2017 editions but lifted the title – their third after 2010 and 2011 – beating a spirited Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final. Dhoni equalled the record of Mumbai Indians’ Rohit Sharma by clinching his third IPL trophy as the captain.
Among others who enjoyed the documentary which got released on March 20, is Bollywood superstar Salman Khan. The 53-year-old actor also posted a tweet asking all to watch the story about the CSK lions’ return to the tournament with a bang. He also congratulated Dhoni for the film directed by Amir Rizvi.
The docu-drama has five episodes of around 20 minutes each aired on HotStar. Ace filmmaker Kabir Khan, who has Salman featuring in his number of films ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’, ‘Tubelight’ and ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ is ‘Roar of the Lion’s co-director.
