India and Pakistan have been loggerheads with each other for a substantial amount of time. Hence, cricket between the Asian giants has also been affected significantly. The two countries haven’t played in a bilateral series ever since Pakistan’s tour of India back in 2012 for a two-match T20I and a three-match ODI series. Their last Test series took place way back in 2007.

Moreover, the two nations won’t feature in any bilateral series until 2013 as per the Future Tours Programme (FTP) released by the International Cricket Council (ICC). The World Test Championship also doesn’t feature any contests between the two teams. Nevertheless, India and Pakistan will play in the ICC tournaments and Asia Cup, much to the relief of the supporters.

A self-assured Afridi

Last year, they played a couple of matches in the ICC Champions Trophy. The arch-rivals are also scheduled to cross swords at least twice in the upcoming Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The 2019 Cricket World Cup in England and Wales will also see the teams play each other at Old Trafford in Manchester. As far as bilateral series’ are concerned, the supporters haven’t lost hope just yet.

Recently, former Pakistani cricketer Imran Khan was crowned as the 22nd Prime Minister of the nation. Since Imran was a cricketer himself, fans are hoping for him to play a vital role in the resumption of bilateral ties between the two nations. Recently, a hopeful supporter asked Shahid Afridi, another legendary Pakistani cricketer, about the possibility of the same under Imran.

The supporter took to Twitter and wrote, “@SAfridiOfficial Lala do you believe imran khan’s presence as Prime minister will give possibility to conduct India pakistan series again? #AskLala.”

Afridi also sounded confident and he had a positive reply in store. He reverted and wrote, “#HopeNotOut”.
