Having cleared the yo-yo test, Sanju Samson is quite the happy man. Initially, with a score less than the prescribed 16.1, Samson had failed the yo-yo Test and was left behind as his teammates in India ‘A’ boarded the flight for England to play the Lions and the Windies. However, after re-taking the test, Samson has been cleared and now available for selection. Yet, there seems to be some resentment regarding the testing, with Indian politician Shashi Tharoor, at least.

Tharoor initially began his Tweet wherein he congratulated the earstwhile Samson for completing and passing the test. However, the Tweet was to get a lot more nastier. Not at Samson, but at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Speaking about the same, Tharoor’s reasoning was that it took Samson just the four weeks to pass the test with rather flying colours. His suggestion was the BCCI rethink their strategy of implementing such a test.

In recent times, prominent cricketers such as Ambati Rayudu and even Mohammed Shami have failed the fitness test. However, in a re-test, Shami has indeed passed and will now join the team for the England Test series. Earlier, Shami was left out of the Indian side that ripped apart Afghanistan in the one-off Test.

There is however, no word on Rayudu as of yet and whether or not he will play a part in India’s tour of England.

Here is what Mr. Tharoor had to say:

In his Twitter handle, Shashi Tharoor wrote: “Delighted to learn that Sanju Samson passed his yoyo test today. He scored 17.3 when the passing point was 16.1. The pointlessness of the test is seen in his going from 15.6 to 17.3 in 4 weeks. But in the process he missed an IndiaA tour. & India missed him. @BCCI should rethink!”
