Former Pakistan pace spearhead Shoaib Akhtar might have lost a few fans from India after criticising Indian government’s decision to abolish Article 370. While no big-name from Indian cricket has commented on the issue, Akhtar could not stop himself from posting a message on the same. Article 370, which is called a Himalayan blunder by many in India, gave special status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

However, earlier this month the government abolished the law in a historic move. Consequently, Jammu and Kashmir has been bifurcated into two Union Territories – Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. The entire nation has been hailing the bold and remarkable decision from the government. The Indian government has also made sure to take all adequate steps to keep the matter under control in the valley which has been the hotbed for militancy in recent years.

However, Pakistan has been criticizing the move since day one. Starting from their government to their citizens, the Pakistanis are trying all they could to tarnish the image of the Indian government. There has not been a single case of violence in Jammu and Kashmir since the decision was announced but Pakistan is just not ready to accept it. They have been doing all sorts of propaganda on social media to tarnish India’s image.

Shoaib Akhtar also did something similar. On the occasion of Eid-al-Adha, the former pacer took to Twitter to post his message. He too echoed the sentiments of his compatriots and falsely accused India on inflicting violence in Kashmir.

He tweeted a picture with the message – “We stand by your side .. EID Mubarak”. The accompanying image read: “You define sacrifice. We pray for your freedom and what a great purpose to live for. #Kashmir.”

Shahid Afridi’s reaction

Shoaib Akhtar, meanwhile, is not the only cricketer from Pakistan to comment on the issue. Former captain Shahid Afridi also posted a tweet on the issue and went on to urge United Nations and US President to take action.

“Kashmiris must be given their due rights as per #UN resolution. The rights of Freedom like all of us. Why was
@UN created & why is it sleeping? The unprovoked aggression & crimes being committed in Kashmir against #Humanity must be noted. The @POTUS must play his role to mediate,” wrote Afridi.
