The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are playing against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the ongoing 53rd match of the IPL 2025 at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. It is a must-win game for KKR, as their hopes of qualifying for the playoffs will stay alive after the victory. Meanwhile, RR have already been eliminated from the tournament. Hence, they are playing without much to ponder, unlike the home team.

Home skipper Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and chose to bat first on Sunday, May 04. Yudhvir Singh Charak drew the first blood for the visitors by dismissing Sunil Narine (11 off 9) in the second over. After his wicket, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ajinkya Rahane formed a partnership of 56 runs before the former was dismissed for 35 runs off 25 balls. Rahane continued building a partnership with Angkrish Raghuvanshi.

In the 13th over, Riyan Parag removed the home team's captain for 30 runs off 24 balls. The real hitting started when Andre Russell (57* off 25) came in early today and wreaked havoc on the bowlers towards the end of the innings. He formed a solid partnership with Raghuvanshi (44 off 31) and helped KKR reach a respectable score of 206. In the last over, Rinku Singh (19* off 6) smashed 18 runs off Akash Madhwal.

"Age is just a number, still feeling like I'm 27. We all know how important this game is and I am happy with the total. [On facing Madhwal after the spinners]. I never worry about a few dot balls here and there but I realized the wicket was getting ab it of risk so I didn't want to take a risk early on against Theekshana. They were bowling good areas so I didn't want to play a risky shot early because I know what I can do in the back end. Hasaranga was bowling in good areas and the slower balls were gripping. The more overs I have, the more I can do," Russell said on air after first innings.

The bowling wasn't that impressive from the RR bowlers, as they failed to break three partnerships today. There were a few missed catches as well, which could have changed the course of the game. Now, the young RR openers will have to score most of the runs in order to win the match.
