Mumbai Indians marched to a commanding 100-run victory against Rajasthan Royals in Match 50 of the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Thursday, May 1. This victory made them rise to the the top of the points table while eliminating RR from making it to the playoffs.
After a quiet start in the first three overs, MI accelerated to 58/0 at the end of the powerplay. Ryan Rickelton (61 off 38) and Rohit Sharma (53 off 36) put together a 116-run stand before getting dismissed in successive overs. It was Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya who launched deadly assault from that point. They hammered identical 48* off 23 knocks to power MI to 217/2. Riyan Parag (1/12 in 2) was the only bowler for RR who was economical.
In response, RR’s run-chase was a contrast to that of their opposition. Vaibhav Suryavanshi fell for a silver duck. Despite getting to 62 by the end of the powerplay, RR had already lost five wickets. Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik, and Karn Sharma all struck in their first overs. Karn, who was subbed in as the Impact Player, claimed a three-wicket haul to end up with figures of 3/23 in four overs. Jofra Archer was his side's top-scorer with 30 (27). RR were bundled out for 117 in 16.1 overs. Bumrah conceded only 15 runs in his four-over spell in addition to picking up a couple of wickets.

1. Rickelton, Rohit's fifties propel MI to commanding start
After being sent in to bat first, Rickelton and Rohit made full use of their time in the middle to stroke their way to respective fifties. Their knocks were crucial for the batters to follow to play with full liberty and carry the momentum forward.


2. MI end innings with a bang courtesy Hardik, Suryakumar
The captain-vice captain duo carried forward from where the opening batters left to post a hefty total on the board after the end of the first innings. Although neither Hardik nor Suryakumar brought up fifties, their knocks were enough to tilt the scales towards MI.


3. Bumrah, Karn share five between themselves
Bumrah was right on the money since he was brought into the attack. Karn's leg-spin troubled the opposition batters too. The two yielded combined figures of 5/38 in eight overs.
