Right after Pakistan’s humiliating ODI series defeat at the hands of New Zealand, ace pacer Shahnawaz Dahani tweeted about Pakistan bowling coach Shaun Tait that sent shockwaves all over social media on Saturday, January 14.

Referring to the former Australia international as his ‘friend’, Dahani posted multiple pictures with the cricketer and shared a broken heart emoticon in his caption. This left the fans wondering about Tait’s health as many felt that the former cricketer has passed away.

“A friend who brought smiles, left last night with tears. #ShaunTait,” the cricketer tweeted earlier in the day. However, looking at the confusion, Dahani quickly jumped in, and clarified that the 39-year-old is leaving the Pakistan team and that’s what he tried to mean via his post.

“Ary bhai Pakistan Cricket Team k baat kar rha hon (Guys, I was talking about the Pakistan cricket team),” Dahani tweeted.

Umar Gul likely to replace Tait as Pakistan bowling coach

Notably, it is reported that Tait’s contract with the Pakistan Cricket Team is slated to end in the month of February. However, the Pakistan Cricket Board are yet to provide an official update about the same. Former cricketer Umar Gul, who was working with the Afghanistan team till December 2021 has emerged to be the favourite for Tait's replacement in the team.

However, the 40-year-old stated that the Najam Sethi-led board is yet to approach him for the role but he will be honoured if he gets an opportunity to work with the Babar Azam-led side. “It is an honour to work for the national team. After I retired from international cricket, I always wanted to work for my team as a coach, but the PCB never approached me,” Gul told Express News.

In the meantime, the Men in Green are not scheduled to play any cricket in the next three months. They will return back to action on April 13 as they are scheduled to take on New Zealand in a five-match T20I and ODI series.
