Veteran wicketkeeper-batter Sarfaraz Ahmed almost did the unthinkable by nearly pulling off a famous win single-handedly for Pakistan chasing a stiff target of 319 runs against New Zealand on Day 5 of the second and final Test match at the National Bank Arena in Karachi. His century brought the hosts closer to the target.
However, it was Sarfaraz’s wife’s reaction from the stands that stood out the most after her husband had notched up an impactful century during the crucial phase of the Test match and thus ending a long wait of eight years to finally breach three figures in the longest format.
Sarfaraz Ahmed’s wife celebrates his ton on Day 5
While the Kiwi bowlers looked for breakthroughs from one end, Sarfaraz Ahmed demoralized them with his counter-attacking strategy as he single-handedly reduced Pakistan’s deficit in the fourth innings. His fearless approach and risk-taking abilities paid off well as the former Pakistan skipper scored his century off only 135 deliveries and more importantly, this ton came in his home ground which made the occasion even more special.
After working a delivery bowled by New Zealand pacer Matt Henry to the off-side, Sarfaraz ran two and celebrated his fourth Test century in delight and he also got a standing ovation from his teammates and the spectators.
Nonetheless, the cameras zoomed at Sarfaraz’s better half Syeda Khusbaht who was seen dancing in ecstasy after her husband had finally made it matter for his team in a high-pressure match. She also cried happily thereafter.

Sarfaraz Ahmed scored 118 runs off 176 deliveries and was dismissed during the last half an hour of the final day’s play. After Ahmed’s dismissal, the visitors had the perfect opportunity to clean Pakistan’s tail.
But, that was not to be as tail-enders Naseem Shah and Abrar Ahmed fought valiantly and with 15 runs still needed the umpires called off the play due to bad light as the Test match and the series ended in a stalemate.
Sarfaraz Ahmed was adjudged the Player of the Match and Series for his outstanding batting performances.
