Team India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur is gearing up for the inaugural edition of the Women's Premier League (WPL) after joining the Mumbai Indians camp on Sunday, February 26. The Mumbai-based franchise shared a special video to welcome the arrival of the star all-rounder following India's exit from the Women's T20 World Cup.

Harmanpreet Kaur, who was signed for a whopping INR 1.8 Crore at the recently-held WPL auction, is the likely candidate to lead the side in the inaugural edition of the tournament, given her exploits at the international stage. The Indian team fell short of making it to the final of the T20 World Cup after a heartbreaking loss against defending champions Australia.

The Indian skipper, who was inconsolable after India's exit from the ICC mega event, was all smiles when she arrived at the Mumbai Indians' camp. She donned the iconic colours of the highly successful franchise while posing for the cameras, saying, "Harman aali re."

Mumbai kick off their campaign in the curtain raiser against Gujarat Giants

The Mumbai Indians have got a strong core of players, featuring the likes of Harmanpreet Kaur, Nat Sciver-Brunt, and Amelia Kerr among several others and are one of the strong favourites for the title. The players began their training on Saturday under the watchful eyes of iconic cricketers Charlotte Edwards (Head Coach) and Jhulan Goswami (Mentor & Bowling Coach).

The Indian skipper was at the heart of India's nail-biting encounter against the formidable Aussies in Cape Town a few days ago. She registered a combative half-century despite being ill ahead of the all-important clash. However, her untimely departure completely derailed the Indian chase, shattering their dreams of an elusive ICC title.

She will be looking to extinguish the disappointment of that loss with a successful campaign for the Mumbai Indians in the upcoming tournament. She is likely to take the field in the curtain raiser against the Gujarat Giants at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on March 4.
