The return of AB de Villiers is certainly going to lift the Proteas’ spirit. While the opportunity to win the series is gone, they can still make amends by levelling the scoreline. With the batting order struggling to make an impact, a lot is expected from de Villiers who was ruled out of the first three ODIs with a finger injury.

Yesterday in the pre-match press conference, even his teammate Chris Morris admitted that ABD coming back in the side was a huge plus point. Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly felt that the 33-year-old was South Africa’s last chance and even suggested him to pull off a Virat Kohli.

He has to do a Kohli for South Africa to turn fortunes around

De Villiers did create a decent amount of trouble for the Indian bowlers in the Test series before getting injured. Now with three games left and all being a must-win situation, Ganguly feels that the big man has to deliver at his best. He even suggested that he can replicate the Indian captain who has been giving a hard time to the South Africans in their own den.

“There are three more games left in the series and the good news for South Africa is that AB de Villiers will be back, but his mere presence will not help the fortunes of his side. He has to do a Kohli for his team to turn its fortunes around,” he was quoted as saying by TOI.

Morne Morkel’s exclusion in the third ODI raised eyebrows

South Africa have been making various selection blunders and that was visible in the third ODI. Morne Morkel who’s been in tremendous form was dropped. His replacement Lungi Ngidi ended up conceding at a rate of 8, thereby bowling just six overs. Ganguly felt that the Proteas needed to sort their selection issues. He also hoped that Morris featured in the next three games.

“The South Africans have had some selection issues which have surprised many. Morne Morkel being left out on Wednesday raised some eyebrows, and he is a must in the next three games for them,” Ganguly stated.
