South Africa( SA) will host the West Indies(WI) in a full-fledged series that includes two Tests, three one-day internationals, and three T20 internationals beginning with the red-ball series from February 28, 2023, at the SuperSport Park in Centurion. The second Test will take place on March 08 at the Wanderers in Johannesburg. The limited-overs series begins on March 16 in East London and ends on March 28 in Johannesburg.
The Proteas defeated the world champions England 2-1 in a three-match ODI series that took place in their own den in January. Temba Bavuma and his men sealed victories in the first two encounters in Bloemfontein to grab the series. Notably, the 32-year-old Bavuma got appointed as the new Test skipper of the Rainbow nation a few days ago as he replaced Dean Elgar who is part of the squad in the series against the Windies.
On the other hand, Kraigg Brathwaite and his West Indies side are coming on the back of a Test series victory in Zimbabwe. After drawing the opening game in Bulawayo, Brathwaite and his men defeated the African nation in the second and the final match by an innings and four runs to seal the series 1-0 at the same venue. Spinner Gudakesh Motie won the Player of the Series award for his 19 wickets in four innings.
West Indies are touring South Africa for the first time since the 2014/15 season. Back then, the Caribbean side lost the Test and ODI series 2-0 (3) and 4-1 (5) respectively while they clinched the T20I series 2-1 (3). The Men in Maroon are touring South Africa after a gap of eight long years as an exciting series awaits the cricketing fans. For the tourists, pacer Shannon Gabriel returns to the squad while all eyes will be on Shivnarine Chanderpaul’s son Tagenarine who has made a great start to his Test career with 418 runs in four games
