After an ordinary bowling performance in the past two T20Is against New Zealand, Jasprit Bumrah finally pounced on the scene to prove everyone why he is currently regarded as one of the best speedsters across the international circuit. The speedster scalped three wickets to plunder the Kiwi batting force as he steered India to clinch the five-match T20 series 5-0.

After registering 163 runs on the board, the Men in Blue were left reeling after the duo of Tim Seifert and Ross Taylor stitched a 99-run partnership. Furthermore, Shivam Dube conceding 34 runs in an over plunged more misery on the visitors. However, the Indian bowling force– led by Jasprit Bumrah and Navdeep Saini put their foot on the gas pedal to guide India to a comprehensive victory. Virat Kohli and Co. became the first team to register a series sweep in a bilateral five-match T20I series.

One vital element of India’s triumph was the exemplary bowling effort of Jasprit Bumrah. Injuries have hampered the speedster cricketing journey since the past couple of months. However, 26-year-old exhibited his forte– pin-point yorkers and excellent pace and length– in the final T20I against New Zealand. Bumrah was also adjudged Man of the Match for his sublime bowling performance.

Jasprit Bumrah achieved the feat in 50 T20Is

The Gujarat-born pacer conceded only 12 runs in four overs and scalped three wickets to sweep New Zealand at the Bay Oval. In the process, Bumrah became the first bowler in T20I cricket to bowl seven maiden overs, going past Sri Lanka’s Nuwan Kulasekara. The Sri Lankan had bowled six overs without conceding a run during his 58-match long career. If bowling maidens is an art, the Bumrah has undoubtedly emerged as the Picasso of it– courtesy his unconventional action, blistering pace and laser-precise accuracy.

Bumrah achieved the feat of bowling seven maidens in T20 Internationals in 50 matches while Kulasekra had registered six maidens in 58 matches. The third in the list is India veteran Harbhajan Singh, who has bowled five maidens in 28 matches while bowling 102 overs.

Tied with Harbhajan Singh are five other bowlers with five maidens each– Trent Johnston, Ajantha Mendis, Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Nabi and Mohammad Naveed. Considering the illustrious career which Jasprit Bumrah has ahead of him, the speedster is anticipated is script a plethora of records in his career.
